New – Impressive – Gran Turismo Sport Trailer from PSX 2016

I’ll admit it, they have my attention.

The only real piece of news we’ve heard since E3 in June from the Gran Tursimo Sport camp is that it would be delayed until 2017.  Now with 2017 looming, developer Polyphony figured Sony’s PSX 2016 as good as a time as any to release a new trailer.

And it has me conflicted.

I’m conflicted because it looks amazing.  Graphics, features, GT3 manufacturers, dirt, dem pitstops!  But I’m conflicted because this doesn’t look ANYTHING like the GT Sport I tried out at E3.

What I tried out at E3 was a not-too-shabby game that felt better physics wise and looked like it belonged on the PlayStation 4.  But belonging on the PS4 and being, “the best looking PlayStation racer ever!” are two different things.  This trailer points to the latter.  I point to my skepticism hat.

Being a krumugin aside, the new PSX trailer does re-confirm things we’ve already known.  It can be played in 4K on the PlayStation 4 Pro.  It supports HDR.  It’ll support PlayStation VR…with one caveat.

We already knew that the entire game wouldn’t be playable in PlayStation VR, but this is the first time a scope of the play-ability has been officially announced.  And by officially announced we mean the asterisk, “Select cars and tracks.”

Will be interesting to see what that translates into.

As for the trailer’s stunning graphics, while it is obvious that the “VR looking” field of view position is faked, one must wonder if the entire trailer is remotely close to looking like the actual game or if it’s just all movie magic?

God I hope it’s real, but until we’re shown some new gameplay on the PS4 Pro, I’m keeping my skeptic hat firmly on.

Hopefully we’ll find out sooner in 2017, rather than later.
