The F1 2017 classic car revelations continue – eight down, three to go. This week, the focus is all on Williams, as Codemasters showcases the two iconic cars from one of the most successful racing teams in F1-history, coming to F1 2017 on August 25. Codemasters also provided a trailer, you can view it above.
Two historic Williams F1 cars are coming to F1 2017
We are already familiar with one of them, the 1992 Williams FW14B. If you want to know more about the car, you can check it out right here!
The second one, however, was a new announcement. It is the 1996 Williams FW18! The FW18 marks no exception and is, like the other historic cars in F1 2017, an extremely victorious machine.
In fact, it was the most successful car of its season. Jaques Villeneuve and Daman Hill were both able to win a total of twelve races in a season that only lasted sixteen. As a result, Hill was able to clinch the championship title and thanks to Villeneuve nearly matching his performance, Williams was able to win the constructors championship as well.
By the way, not only the car is famous but its designers too! One of them was Sir Patrick Head, who co-founded the Williams F1 team, and the other one was Adrian Newey, who you may know from his very successful involvements with Red Bull.
Here is what Claire Williams, Deputy Team Principal, Williams Racing had to say:
The FW14B is one of our most iconic cars and one of my personal favourites. With Nigel Mansell behind the wheel, it was a force to be reckoned with and provided one of our greatest eras as a team in Formula One. The FW18 of 1996 is statistically our most successful ever car, winning 12 out of 16 races, six of which were one-two finishes, on our way to securing the Constructors’ title. We are delighted that these cars are being included in this year’s new F1 game for 2017. It is a special year for us as we celebrate our 40th anniversary, so a perfect moment to celebrate two cars that we are so proud of at Williams. We hope that gamers will love driving them as they remember some great moments from the history of our sport.
