Stefano from Kunos stepped into the official Assetto Corsa forums to answer some questions from the community. More specifically, what the status of the November update to the console version would entail. Needless to say, the reactions were definitely……mixed.
Now credit where credit is due; I happened to be perusing GTPlanet’s site and noticed an article from Matej about Assetto Corsa with an interesting headline, “Assetto Corsa Won’t Feature Photomode or Full-Length Replays on Console”. Uh, say what? The article goes on to point out that in the aforementioned forum post, GTPlanet member Donnced asked,
Hi Stefano, again thank to respond those questions.. and other replies you let here.
But some questions more has come to my mind.
In PC during the replay, there’s the option to activate the Photomode. will this be implemented on console versions?
And will you implement also the “showroom”?
Will the replay time improve to be able to save a full race?
And the last question, would it be possible to implement an “spectators view mode” in the online lobbies?
With as matter-of-fact as you can get (which I always appreciate), Stefano replies,
sadly none of these things are planned.
Ouch. I mainly play the PC version, but for our console friends in the sim racing community, that might sting a little bit. The idea with Assetto Corsa porting to consoles was to have essentially the same version so that the console audience could get the simulation experience on their PS4 or XB1 (with exception to mods). While photomode and replay isn’t for everyone, it still has an audience within the community and anyone that looked into the PC version prior to the console release would have a reasonable expectation to think that the same features would be included.
As I skimmed the forum post responses from Stefano, he does give hope for some other features in the near future for Assetto Corsa. More specific to the PS4 is the possibility of implementing UDP applications, which appear to possible, but not tested as of yet. Stefano also talks about the consoles getting closer with updates to the PC,
Next console update is a very important one because it realigns the code to the current version of the PC. Because of the massive changes the console version had to go through a lot of testing so that’s why there is a “lag” between the releases. Hopefully with code parity the future releases will be more in sync. We all want the same thing here, devs and users: to see the software out as soon as possible.
That’s good news as some criticism (including some from yours truly) has been directed towards the noticeably large differences between PC and consoles versions. Stefano furthers that good news with a response about custom championships,
Custom championships can’t come soon enough.. hopefully the update for the third Porsche DLC (1.11) will include those.
Nice! For those of us that like to race offline, an easy way of creating custom championships would be a greatly welcomed feature.
If you play the console version of Assetto Corsa, is it a huge let down for you that there seemingly will not be full length replays or a photomode available? Does Stefano’s statements about possible UDP implementation, custom championships and an update that realigns the code more closely with the PC give you hope for the console version and Assetto Corsa as a whole? As always, let us know in the comments below.
