Project Cars 2 and the Passion of Porsche

Its been common knowledge that race sim software houses have been using the expertise and knowledge of real world race car drivers when developing their titles. Slightly Mad Studios have had the help from 3 time AMLS GT champion Patrick Long.

Patrick has the envious job title of the “only” North American who is employed full time by Porsche as a factory driver. Originally from California Patrick has an abundance of European racing experience, so any input into Project Cars 2 will be valuable. The same ethos with the original Project Cars title was evident however on release there were opinions from the gaming world something was wrong. Credit where credits due Slightly Mad Studios worked flat out to bring this original game to where it is today, quite a playable and enjoyable sim. Lets hope things were learned and improved for the upcoming predecessor “Project Cars 2”

The importance of this Porsche announcement is its official, like many other race games currently doing the rounds. It seems a Porsche licence must be on special offer as everyone is on the bandwagon. We can expect similar marque of Porsche in Project Cars 2 as to other titles, ranging from the 911, GT3Rs, and some vintage classics Martini 935. The video shows many models and it can be tricky to pin point the exact model. On a separate note it would seem Lime Rock will be included in Project Cars 2, we’ve yet to have anything official. Other notable locations in the video look like Hockenheim and possibly Le Mans. or a famous circuit with a Ferris Wheel – you decide –   Again we only get a snippet of detail, and even when the film paused it can be puzzling identifying the circuits but good fun!

Here is a list of Porsche models, that are known so far:

  • 2016 Porsche 911 GT3 RS
  • 2016 Porsche 911 GT3 R
  • 2016 Porsche Cayman GT4 ClubSport
  • 1998 Porsche 911 GT1
  • 1984 Porsche 962C
  • 1984 Porsche 962C Longtail
  • 1977 Porsche 935
  • 1976 Porsche 936

The detailing with regards to the car physics and tyre modelling  is exhaustive and Patrick Long is going to great lengths with the developers to get this as close to real life as possible.
