Trading Paints, the iRacing custom paint sharing website/software, has kicked off 2014 with a thoroughly updated user experience that makes integrating custom paint schemes into iRacing as seamless as ever. The most noticeable change is the site being streamlined into three tabs: Your Paints, Showroom and Paint Builder.
Your Paint allows you to upload your custom paint schemes on to the Trading Paints server so you and your online competitors can view them during a session. As the name implies, only you have access to the paint files in Your Paints, so if you don’t want to share your custom work, you don’t have to worry about someone stealing it.
On the other hand, if you would like to share your custom work with the community you can upload your paint to the Showroom where anyone can view and race your work. There is also a Resources section in the Showroom that allows users to share content like paint scheme bases and contingency decals. The Showroom also has a social flavor to it, in which you can “follow” a painter, “favorite” their paint and even comment on it.
The third tab is called Paint Builder and is part of the $23.99/year “Pro” subscription to the site. The Pro subscription includes:
- Ad-free browsing: Never see an ad again when you’re signed in to your Pro account.
- Access to Trading Paints Paint Builder
- Inactive paints: Switch back to paints you’ve used in the past
- Vehicle-specific helmets and driver suits
- Separate day and night paint schemes, which load automatically when the server is in day or night mode
- Special paint schemes for league races. Join an iRacing league race and a paint scheme you pick will load.
- Painters: Option to only allow drivers to use a paint scheme you’ve uploaded if you approve their request. (There will be a “Request to Use” button instead of a “Use this paint” button.)
- Pro badge: A little “Pro” label follows you around the site (and it looks great on your Profile page).
- The ability to change the iRacing-stamped decal layer on your car. Change contingency stickers, paint wings/side skirts, and more.
